Trip Advisor 5-Star Reviews

"Finally Unums is catching on!"
Unums is our favorite restaurant in Nashua and has been since we moved here in August 2007. For the first two years we never had to make a reservation the place unfortunately was usually empty... something I never understood as the food and staff are AMAZING! There was a period of time about a year ago that the food was sometimes inconsistent. I think whatever was going on they ironed out the kinks. The staff is always very friendly and attentive from the hostess and waitress to the bussers. The chef is a true talent and his imagination is unmatched. Nashua definitely has its share of fantastic restaurants (despite what other's say I believe it is one of the best culinary cities north of Boston.) Unums is at the top of the list. I believe the word finally has gotten out there as you definitely need to make a reservation now. So do just that...you will be glad you did.

PS - Go around the holidays and you will get an additional treat as the decorations are so festive and it is a cozy holiday experience!!

"Unique, extraordinary, a real pleasure!"
I can't believe we've missed this gem for two years! My husband and I are always hunting for a restaurant we can count on for a great evening out, which, with 5 kids, has become a rare and much-anticipated event. Unums is perfect. The atmosphere is cozy, the decor clever without being kitschy, the background music spot-on. The menu is an Mediterranean inspired, extraordinarily imaginative. The mushroom risotto entree, Unums tart, and salad appetizers were unusual and delicious. The tiramisu was good, but if I have to note on criticism, I'd prefer a little less mascarpone and more of the soaked ladyfingers. The price was good for comparable quality, but excellent given the chef's imagination. Our waitress, Kyra, was pleasant, helpful and patient. Terrific!

"Best dining experience we have had since moving here 3 months ago!"
This restaurant is a hidden gem. It isn't on the central artery through town so you won't happen upon it. So get directions as it is just off Main St. We moved here from the Providence RI area and have been largely disappointed in the restaurants in Southern NH until stumbling on this venue. The management is very friendly, the bartenders are both friendly and knowledgeable. The menu can best be described as eclectic and different. My wife and I both loved our entrees and the flatbread appetizer. Try this excellent restaurant, you won't be disappointed.

"Unums in Downtown Nashua - Our favorite night-out restaurant!"
Unums is a wonderful restaurant for couples or a family celebration. We love going to sit at the bar and sample their excellent and always changing wine list (Wednesdays are Wine Down Wednesday) and are working our way through all their tasty flatbreads from the bar menu (the best we have had... super crispy with interesting topping combinations). The service is excellent and they always make you feel welcome. I took my parents there for a special occasion and service was excellent as well as the main entrees . They keep asking when we can go back!

"Really Great Food"
My husband and I went to Unum's last night for dinner for the first time. I can say that it is our favorite new restaurant. Too bad it took us a year to finally try it.

The first impression is that there is a really nice and unique atmosphere. There is a very warm and cozy feeling about the restaurant. We were greeted by one of the owners, Steve. We were seated and were given a list of specials along with the menu. There were many app and entree specials. Prices are average. Certainly not your night out at Friendly's prices, but not over the top. And based on what we got, the prices were fair. There was definitely something on the menu for any palette. I ordered the duck entree, my husband ordered the split chicken breast. Both of our meals were superb. Great flavor, nice portions, nice presentation. The hardest part about the experience was trying to decide on what it was I wanted, as everything sounded very good.

All in all I would highlight the great as:
  Food was excellent.
  Atmosphere was unique and inviting.
I love a place that serves bottled beer with a frosty glass, which I got.
Everything is completely cooked to order. So don't expect a meal quickly, which I appreciate.
Portions were definitely not small, but not overdone either.
Nice presentation. From the dinnerware to the food on the plate.

A couple of minor things that could be improved, but certainly not negative:
Service was good, but you could tell that they try very hard to impress.
Twice food was brought to our table that was intended for the table next to us. Maybe the server was new and still learning table numbers.

All in all, this is our favorite new place in Nashua. I highly recommend.

"They Totally Get It!"
As part of my business venture, I to try to help restaurants improve the quality of the wine offerings and service. I am typically very critical of restaurant wine lists and normally take some winning over.

This past Saturday my wife and I had a chance to get out on a date night. We decided to go with somewhere which we have not been previously. We went to Unums in downtown Nashua and immediately I knew we made the correct choice.

Co-owner Stephen Williams greeted us at the door with a handshake and escorted us to our table. From there on we had a terrific culinary experience. We decided on going with three appetizers instead of entrees so that we could sample some of Chef Brianas’ creations. With a line-up of fresh gnocchi & shrimp in a peanut sauce, a red pepper stuffed with mozzarella and sausage, and finished it off with baked brie & fruit plate how could we go wrong?! FYI – the portions were very generous!

When it came to wine, Unums has a very diverse list with some interesting selections. We decided to accompany our meal with a bottle of 2005 Robert Stemmler Nugent Vineyard Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley. It was a very fragrant and well-balanced Pinot and went well with all three dishes.

For dessert we enjoyed a glass of 1999 Felsina Vin Santo of the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany. This was a very interesting wine due to the fact that it had such strong cognac features on the nose. It was very well crafted and a good recommendation!

During our visit, Stephen and our waitress, Kira, were exceptionally gracious and attentive, yet not overbearing in the slightest. We were there for about three hours and it truly felt like they enjoyed us hanging around. Stephen and I had a chance to talk about the wine offering and also recommended some of his preferred wines. He also shared with me his ambitious endeavor to further improve the wine list and attempt to obtain Wine Spectator recognition. Considering his passion for enhancing his patrons’ experiences and love for well-crafted wine I believe he will certainly obtain this.

In the past I believed that Michael Timothy’s offered the best total experience in town. My opinion has been swayed and I can definitively say that Unums is the true culinary gem of Nashua! The owner, staff, atmosphere, food and drinks, brilliant!

I hope you enjoy unums as much as we did!

"Boston Quality in Southern New Hampshire"
My wife and I took my brother and his wife out for dinner Saturday night, as a treat. After considering several downtown Nashua eateries we decided to try Unum's as none of us had ever been. We loved the decor of the restaurant, and the open kitchen concept. We started out on a high note, as my brother found a wine that he had on a trip to CA several years ago, but had not been able to find locally, so we were off to a good start. The service was perfect, granted the restaurant was not full, but we never felt rushed at any point in the evening. The time between courses was perfect, and our server, Lisa was personable and knowledgeable in helping us with our choices. Two of us had salads and two had the Unum's tart appetizer, all were very good. For entrees two had roast duckling, one the seafood risotto, and one the teriyaki chilean sea bass. All were cooked perfectly and were just wonderful. Each couple split a desert, as we were all pretty full due to the generous size of the entrees. Our pre tax tab came to about $230.00, with two bottles of wine, quite reasonable for the quality and service that we received.

"Outstanding!"
Unums opened to mixed reviews, and they certainly had many startup problems, but they have put their act together and they are probably now the best restaurant in southern NH. Probably a step above Saffron and on a par with The Hanover Chop House. We had the Tuscan Fish and the Rib Eye on June 9. Excellent! Service (Kira) was great. The owners were attentive but not intrusive. Wine list was imaginative and not over priced. The entire experience cost us about $100 before tip. A good value. Decor was sort of upscale French Bistro. We dine out three/four nights a week at upscale restaurants in Southern NH. Angela and I shall return - soon.

"Exude the glamour and class of a manhattan restaurant, but hidden in Southern New Hampshire!"
As we left our amazing camping trip last weekend in the "Granite State" to go back to our home in Long Island, we (the wifey and I) were craving some fine - dining food. A place that maybe would remind us of eateries in Manhattan. Thank god for technology - our blackberry and IPhone helped us narrow it down to a couple of places. It seemed that most of the highly rated restaurants were located near our route home in the small city of Nashua, NH. As we drove by a couple of places (forgot their names), we finally found a "jazzy" looking restaurant hidden from the main streets of the downtown. As we got out of the car and looked beyond the large windows, my wife and I were very intrigued with the decorative designs and unique atmosphere the restaurant projected. It definitely gave us a feel as we were "walking through the city of NY" and looking for new place to eat. As went entered the restaurant, we were greeted very politely by the hostess. Being it was a Sunday night, there were a decent amount of people in the restaurant. Looking around the restaurant, I was very impressed with the design of the place. It had an Italian/Mediterranean vibe to it. Some place you would find in Europe. And the bar itself was very unique - very wavy marble counter top - something you would not see at your typical restaurant. As we sat down, the service from the waiter was very welcoming - like we were regular customers there. Just like we were part of the club. I really like this because it seems like every restaurant you go to, you are just another customer being waited on. Just like another number in the crowd. And throughout the night, the service was wonderful. He treated us with class, brought our meals out in a timely manner, and wasn't very over bearing. We felt right at home. As for their selection, I was amazed with what they had: Merlot-Braised Half Duck? Chicken and Sirloin Prosciutto Bacon Wrap? This is not what I would expect to find in a menu at a local owned restaurant in New Hampshire. I was lucky enough to order the Sirloin Prosciutto Bacon Wrap and was amazed with it. It came out at the right temperature (not too hot where it would burn your tongue or too cold where you would be complaining). It was delicious! As for my wife, I'm not sure what she had, but I remember she was smiling the entire time we were at Unums. And during our meal, the owner even came by to say hi and have a little chat with us. It made us felt like we were eating at an upscale restaurant in NYC. Another big plus about this place - I'm not a big wine drinker myself, but my wife simply praised their wine list. There were wines that she was surprised to see from a place like this. Finally for the cost - It's definitely not a cheap eat but for the service, food, atmosphere; it’s cheaper then going to a typical upscale restaurant in Boston or NYC to get the same thing. As they say, "you pay for what you get for." Overall, if you are looking for a fun, classy atmosphere, excellent food and wine, and don't mind spending a little more then going to your typical chain-restaurant. You should definitely give Unums a chance. I know we did and for our next trip to New Hampshire, we are definitely stopping there to eat before we head back home!

PS – Only Complaint I had about the restaurant is the owner is a Red Sox Fan - Go Yankees!
[Edt. Note: Go Sox!]

"Exceptional!"
I know this restaurant got a sketchy review shortly after it opened but don't let that stop you. Whatever kinks the kitchen and/or management needed to work out to make this a superior dining experience, they've done it. We had a fabulous meal there last night, that we all agreed was one of best we've ever had. The atmosphere is charming with warm lighting and interesting decor. The service, provided by Lisa, was friendly, attentive and informed. We had the roasted Miyagi oysters and the Pan Seared Calamari with Mussels for appetizers. Both were rich and flavorful with great sauces - perfect for sopping up with the fresh, warm breads provided. We followed up with the Merlot-Braised Half Duck, the Pan-Seared King Salmon and one the specials, Sea Bass on Frittata. Each meal was a surprising and complicated mixture of tastes and textures. No need to describe each dish, you can read about the details by visiting Unums' website and going to the Menu page. Suffice it to say, we were all moaning between mouthfuls. We split the Oozy Goozy dessert that was a peanut butter filled molten chocolate cake with fresh whipped cream. Uber Yummy!
Yes, it's a tad pricey but every bit worth it. We can't wait to find an excuse to go back.

"A must when in Nashua New Hampshire!"
As a world traveler I was surprised and shocked to find this restaurant in Nashua NH. Unum’s is one of the best restaurants I have found in a long time. The food, ambience, cocktails, and wine list are right up there with some of the top restaurants in Europe. This is a must for anyone visiting New Hampshire.

"Wonderful Surprise in Nashua!"
Who would have thought you could find a nice, high end restaurant in Nashua? We usually head into Boston for fine dining. Although it is a bit of a drive from Wellesley, its worth it. We found Steve & Karen Williams, two of the owners, mingling with the patrons which is a big deal for me. Constantine Brianas, the Executive Chef and third partner, clearly takes pride in his creations and as this was our first visit he came to our table to see how we liked the dishes we ordered. The menu items are priced where I would expect them to be for a high end restaurant, but fortunately Unum's lacks the aura of pretentious self importance you often find in upscale restaurants. One final comment - this place has a wonderful non-linear bar that makes it easy to make eye contact with other people. The kitchen closes at 10 and last call is 1AM. I am told that summer is the down season and that during winter the place is usually full. We are definitely going back.

"Getting much better"
A 6PM birthday dinner for three veteran local diners turned out very well. The early hour assured professional and friendly attentiveness from owners, chefs, waitresses, bus boys, etc., and sufficient quiet to hear the excellent background jazz. The menu was nicely diverse and the specials enticing. We had the rainbow trout, pan seared duck, and salmon - all well prepared and presented. All were excellent. The Riesling was properly chilled and well served. $8 for a side of onion rings did seem a little pricey though.

Unums is now operating at a level close to that of MT's and Surf.

"Great food, great drinks, great ambiance!"
We visited this restaurant on a friday night and were a party of 4. Our meals were all delicious ( Tuna, Porterhouse steak, and Sea bass) The decor of the restaurant is really warm and soothing and comfortable. We were seated at the exact time of our reservation.

We had a fabulous bottle of Pinot Noir that the bartender recommended.. delicious !

The desserts were awesome ( raspberry cheesecake and bread pudding) Our server was very very attentive.

We really couldn't have asked for more and we will surely return !

No complaints here !!

"My new favorite restaurant"
My wife and I have visited Unums two times now and each time it was an excellent experience. Great food, wine and ambiance. It reminds me of a meal in Italy with a California influence.

The food was outstanding from appetizers to the desserts. We were promptly seated at our table while a courteous waitress took our drink orders and brought us water and a great basket of freshly baked breads. When the appetizers came we shared them because they were both so good we wanted to have a taste of each. The wine selection was good from entry level to some fine wines reasonably priced. When eating good I prefer to pair it with a quality wine and the selection was good for seafood, poultry or meat dishes.

The menu and the daily specials were terrific. I had an entree from the menu and my wife had one of the specials. Both were outstanding. The salmon and shrimp over risotto was really great. Since it was a special occasion we treated our selves to dessert and some cappuccinos. Yum.

I'm looking forward to my next visit. There were several items on the menu I'd like to try. The problem is, the daily specials are usually so good its hard to pass them up to order from the menu. A good problem to have.

If you want to have a nice meal well prepared in a great local restaurant this is a good place to check out. The price is reasonable for this quality. A refreshing break from the frozen food at so many chain restaurants.

Bon appetite...

"Fabulous new hot spot!"
We passed this restaurant on the way to another, and made a point of stopping by after eating to take a look at the menu. The place was hopping, but the owner, Steve, invited us to look around and read the menu. It's got a little bit of everything. We went back last night and sat at the bar. We shared mussels and a Seafood White flatbread. Both were out of this world. They have 4 appetizer specials and 4 dinner specials along with the menu which Steve says changes often. The bar staff was the friendliest I've ever met. The lady next to me wondered where on earth they imported them from, because their enthusiasm was infectious. You can read the menu on [--], so I don't have to describe it all. Just know it was fun and delicious.

"Outstanding ambience and personalized service"
We visited Unums in Nashua on a busy Friday night. We were astounded by the beautiful ambience that the restaurant has to offer. We were seated in the lower dining level adjacent to the cascading waterfall. The wait staff was outstanding and we were amazed by the number of specials that Unums had to offer. Our meals arrived promptly and the Sweet Main Crab cake appetizer followed by the 20 oz Wood Grilled T-bone steak were completely delectable. Unums in Nashua offers personalized service, ambience and an exceptional menu. It is sure to be one of the hottest spots in Nashua this year.

"Very 'Best Thing' that has ever happened to Nashua!"
Situated directly off of Main Street in, a former massage therapy salon, UNUMS has been developed as part of the regeneration of Downtown Nashua, where there is also a mix of ethnic, student and professional accommodation. Located on 47 East Pearl Street, a one way street, UNUMS is approximately a 2 minute walk from Main Street. While the parking area is limited there is ample on street parking.

Our table was booked for 8pm. My husband and I were were warmly greeted by the door staff and showed into the restaurant. UNUMS is both a restaurant and a bar and when entering the premises you could immediately see why it has already become such a popular venue. UNUMS opened on Thursday August 30th at 5 PM and we were there on Saturday Sept 2, their third night open. The glass floor to ceiling front in the restaurant provided a pleasant feature and was coupled with the modern décor of flexible seating which allows them to accommodate larger parties. The music was a live ensemble featuring crooner style music which was not intrusive and the lighting complimented the dining area. Throughout the restaurant were beautiful antiques and pieces which provided an old world feeling. The antique accessories coupled with a gorgeous light colored granite bar (that went on forever) created a wonderful feeling of old world cosmopolitan, a very fresh and very inviting feeling.

We were greeted by the restaurants friendly and helpful staff that showed us to our table. We were asked if we would like any drinks and given the menu to peruse. The table we had been seated at was very comfortable and we had a view of the entire bi level dining area as well as the bar. You can actually be seated at a cooks bar where you can watch the entire kitchen buzzing in process. The owners were wonderful. They came to each and every table, introduced themselves and made sure that everyone was pleased. They were delightful!

The tables were set with a small t-light candle and modern decoration. We ordered cocktails and shortly afterwards the waitress followed to take our order. The menu was a mix of seafood, beef, pork , and chicken dishes all reasonable priced with a good selection of salad dishes, meat and fish dishes and a specials board. I do not know if there is a separate children’s menu.

After much deliberation we were ready to order. For starters we ordered the lobster ravioli appetizer. There were probably 6 ravioli in a wonderful sauce accompanied by chunks of lobster and 4 to 5 large shrimp. For the salad we ordered a poached pear salad served with greens and candied walnuts in a reduced wine vinaigrette dressing. For the main course we chose to split the Rack of Lamb ordered medium rare and it was superb.

Our food was well presented and served on modern plain white chinaware. The portions were just right ! The bad news was that we had no room for dessert. There was a good selection, however, and next time we will save room. The meal was not rushed and we had adequate time in between courses. There was not a whole lot of room to dance, but several couples were dancing (John and I included) and it was a lot of fun!

The Bill for the two of us came to $60 very reasonable I think you will agree.

The ladies toilets were very large, nicely decorated and clean
as were the gents.

Our evening was very enjoyable at UNUMS, modern, friendly and relaxed. If you are looking for a refreshing change then I highly recommend UNUMS.
